Trying to put politics aside, which is difficult after listening to this interview, what I have not heard from Senator Obama is:
If he were able, as President, to shift 2-3 additional American Combat Brigades into the Afghan theater, what would they be sent there to do (specifically), and; if the military is not enough (something I agree with) what else does Senator Obama think is required in Afghanistan and how will he propose it gets done.
His other proposals so far are: far more comprehensive and high-level engagement with Pakistan involving whole of government, not just DoD; increase civilian aid to Afgh by $1 bn/year; re-engage with Iran; more to come.

We especially encourage submissions from anthropologists, historians, sociologists, and those in other disciplines who have expertise but do not often speak on current events. The best such pieces are typically 800 to 1000 words, with one central point to make. Some good tips are here, with part two being here. Some other good advice is here. Op-eds will be carefully considered but the editor reserves the right to decline them and may not have time to give detailed responses. Submissions to .
