Of course, one needs flour to make cake. Pervez Musharraf recently opined that the flour crisis is not real and that the cost of flour in Pakistan is, in fact, cheaper than neighboring countries. Let it be noted that the price of flour in Pakistan is 3 or 4 times the normal rate and that is only if you can find any. [The BBC Urdu article notes that the price of flour in India is three times lower.] The things are so dire that army troops are guarding wheat shipments. I wonder if our informed commentator, Fareed Zakaria, was served cake while having tea with Musharraf.
It is not hard to imagine what the lack of basic foodstuff, and basic security, can mean for this nation in crisis.

Wheat futures had better return than oil futures in 2007. Wheat Stocks are down worldwide.
Kansas has incidents of stealing of wheat from silos.
India has stopped export on wheat to keep its prices down. I can go on but that would just destroy your banality. There is rice crisis in bangladesh, are you going to blame Zakaria also for that. Pakistan will just have more issues with this because of no control of population unlike Iran which saw the problem coming and actually did family planning.
Can you say global warming. I think not.
There was a bumper crop for Pakistan, initially. To keep the stats up, Mr. Shaukat Aziz's government exported wheat to India almost the same time as the harvest.
However, the late crop was destroyed by rains etc. so there was a subsequent wheat crisis.
Rather than pretending to bring 'prosperity' to Pakistan and in these efforts bringing hunger and inflation, it's time that our 'leaders' begin to think beyond their own realm.

No body is blaming Zakaria for wheat shortage, je is showing shortage of common sense and courage, where is Jets out Visit a Dictator and comes up with headline, Musharraf's last stand. There are millions oof peblems in Pakistan, and it would be silly to deny them or pin them on visiting Journalists(even when they show total lack of understanding.But the dispensation that is needed to creat consensus to solve these problems is not going to come through Gun Barrel of Pakistani or internation military's gun barrel
